Image of white-tail deer taken with the Amcrest ATC 1201 trail cam. Simply the best images I have seen with a trail cam. The long range night vision was clear too.

This is a great trail cam. We put it out in several habitats around the farm to see what type of wildlife we had. It clearly took 10-12 pictures and 6-8 video throughout the night of raccoon, birds, and deer in the sequence of a few images, then a few videos each before the animal would leave the area. It is simple to set up (put in batteries, use the little remote to click through the modes like date and type of images. I also bought a 32 gb Sony SDHC Memory Card and you just slip it in.).It did not need an upgrade. Although it took 8 AA batteries, we have left the trail cam out 7 times so far (early evening to late morning the next day) for a 12 hour period taking both video and still pictures and the batteries have still not run out. The images are super clear enough to see details of deer flies on a deer’s head and it does not scare the wildlife away, although we watched one deer sniff it. It appears to be very water resistant – it has been left out in all-night rain and through a storm. It is easy to tie the long belt that comes with it around any tree or post. I have seen lots of images and videos from trail cams and these have to be the most stunning, clearest/cleanest I have seen especially in full darkness. The only mistake I have made so far is putting it out where a limb dangled within six inches or so in front of the camera after a storm knocked it over and the motion detector picked it up.

The ATC-1201 is a portable camera in a rugged, water and dust resistant enclosure (IP54), designed to be placed in a stationary position to take pictures and/or videos of anything that moves into its field of vision. This is a great device to take along while hiking or camping to record wildlife in the area.

Another use is to mount it in the yard to identify creatures destroying the garden, flower bed or other plantings. With that knowledge, effective barriers may be installed to reduce the damage, or a decision reached about fighting a losing battle. The camera can be configured to either take photos or video of various length and quality, or both, when it detects movement with its Passive infrared (PIR) photo sensors.

Small in size (approximately 5 1/2 x 3 1/4 x 2 inches) the camera is easy to transport and set-up. The IP54 rating indicates the camera is for outdoor use and is resistant to both dust and water splashing from all angles. The device includes a black fabric strap to attach the camera to a tree or pole, a remote control for configuration (battery included), a mini USB to USB cable to manage storage, and a 2.5 mm to composite video cable for playback through a TV.

Batteries for the camera are not included and at least four AA’s are required, with room for an addition four to extend power after the first group are depleted. An SD card is necessary to store pictures and videos (not included). The camera also has a port for a six volt AC adapter (not included).

After inserting batteries and setting the switch to “on”, the camera takes one picture and one 10 second video each time motion is detected. When there is enough light, both are in color and high definition (12 MP photos, 1080P videos). In the dark, the array of 36 infrared lights activates to take black and white pictures and videos for distances of up to 65 feet.

Using the remote control (which stores neatly inside the door of the battery compartment) and the two inch LED screen on the camera, settings can be changed after moving the power switch to “Test”. Then the LED screen will preview what the camera sees. Pressing the star on the remote activates a laser pointer that is also useful to verify that the camera is aimed correctly.

Pressing the menu button reveals menus for setup, videos, and photos. The setup menu includes Mode (Camera, Video, or both), Language, Distance (High, Normal, or Low), TV Mode (NTSC or PAL), Date/Time, Timer, Format, and Password.

The Video menu provides settings for Resolution (1080P, 720P, WVGA, or QVGA), Video Length (10, 30, 60, or 90 seconds), and Voice (Off, On). The Picture menu has settings for Resolution 12M, 8M, 5M), Delay (1, 5, 10, 30 seconds), Multi (1, 3, 6, 9 pictures), and ISO (10, 200, 400).

After paging through the menus, setting the time and date and making some changes, I mounted the camera inside in a dark room and created movement to trigger the camera, and did the same with the room lighted. After that I mounted it outside during daylight in a vacant lot to test the outdoor performance. The screen shot photos attached to this review represent the test of the camera. The outdoor shot reflects an area approximately 45 by 45 feet.

Retrieving the recorded photos and videos is as simple as moving the SD card to a reader on a computer if one is available, or by plugging in the included USB cable which will show up in the file explorer on a tablet or PC as an external drive (power switch must be in the “On” position). Then the files can be viewed, copied, edited, and deleted. The photos and videos can also be viewed on the cameras LED screen or on a television screen with the included cable, in Test Mode, by using the up and down arrows to scroll.

I purchased a standard AC adapter from a hardware store which works well if using the camera through a window or in another interior location but is not suitable for use out of doors – but in certain applications offers another power option for observation of wildlife or anything in the area that has movement. A sturdy, impressive camera that creates excellent quality pictures and videos.

This is a motion sensor activated night vision camera that can be used to capture wildlife at night, learning about the wildlife in an area and when they move around an area.

The battery is indicated as having up to 3-months standby time. That means one can set this out for a long time before having to power up again.

The camera has 32GB storage capacity, so one could set it out for many days without having to think about it, and potentially capture a lot of animal photos.

This camera is well camouflaged for many outdoor areas and with its nylon fastening belt can be set up in many environments.

Outdoor motion sensor camera received for sincere review.
